Stud Service

Hi,

I have a tri colored male pembroke welsh corgi. I was wondering what websites would be good to post his availability for stud service. Also, I was wonderin' what would be a good price to charge for his stud service. He's got champion bloodlines, he's also part of the orthopedic foundation for animals, inc. He's 16 months old, and he's already bred a german shepard and had a puppy (it was not a planned for him to breed the german shepard). So, I at least know he's interested in breeding... so any advice would be great.

Jenilee

Your best bet for advertising would be to either show him in conformation and champion him out, or get his herding instinct certificate, try him in agility, etc. Get him involved in the dog community and show them what he has and what he is. Because word of mouth is the most effective advertising in the dog community, as well as proving that your dog has desirable traits.

I was surprised to read one place they required health certificate of females regarding some sexually transmitted diseases before breeding. I didn't even realize there were dog sexually transmitted diseases until then!

The winner of "uggliest dog contest" whose picture has been appearing all over the place is a purebread dog so I very much agree with GretaJack. Responsible people who want to improve breed want evidence the stud is really good in some way since even the best bloodlines can produce puppies that aren't.

You may have noticed that many breeders will list puppies from same llitter as "pet grade" and "show grade" and adjust the price accordingly. They are not always right though since a flaw may correct itself as puppy grows or a fault appear such as too big or too small for breed requirements for some that are very stict about this. But after a lot of litters, they can get a good sense of what to expect.

It is called a brucellosis. It is a very simple test. We require it of every dog, bitch and stud, that is bred in our clinic no matter what. No if, and, or buts about. We have had owners argue with us but that is one standard requirement that we don't give on, whether you own both dogs or the bitch is maiden, it doesn't matter.

Now, we have never had a positive brucellosis at our clinic but there have been confirmed positive cases in the Amish puppy mills in Wisconsin.
