Exclamation I was wondering if.....

Anyone had gone through the same thing as I am going through now?

First, lemme say hello to all...I am new here to the forum. I came on last night just to look around hoping I could find something to help me with my question so I thought...hmmm, ok...doenst seem like anyone has the answers right now so lemme just ask.

I have a Pekingenes (Panji) she is 2 1/2 and this will be her first litter. Now, when I did the chart it had her due Sept. 22 BUT....it seems she is getting her symtoms early.....like feeling the pups move around alot, her milky fuilds, cleaning herself, and watching her bttom A LOT....etc. Ok, so now I am think maybe there was a day I didnt see her and Paco hook up a time earlier so lemme start checking temp here. I did for 3 days straight and it was under 100...between 99/98 but no labor had begun. I was getting a lil worried so away to the vet we went...(which she hates) Once there she gets checked over and the vet said nothing to worry about. NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT?!? Her temp has been down for days and nothing, so there is nothing to worry about here?? She said no, dogs are like humans, though we can say...ok, this will happen step by step and boom theres puppies doesnt always apply to all dogs. She said her temp may be low like this for another week and may even spike up once or twice before she goes into labor. She said she was healthy maybe expecting 3/4 puppies and sent me on home saying...when its time, its time and she will let you know...dont always follow the text book.

So, has this happen to anyone else?? Am I going crazy and expecting too much right now following what I have read text book?

The help would so helpful!
Thanks!

Oh, that makes me nervous... Those little breeds can be so difficult at times. How many days are you counting? 61? 63? 65? Keep temping her. If her temp is still below 99, I would take her back to the vet and ask to have blood drawn to have a progesterone test run. Progesterone tells you so much as to what is going on. We use it to predict ovulation for the breeding process and then throughout the pregnancy to see if they are sustaining the pregnancy, and then when it gets close to the day, we can tell a lot of what is going on.

In the last days of pregnancy progesterone results of 6 or higher means they are fine and the pups want to bake a bit more, once it is below 6 the are ready to come out but it is safe to wait and see. Once it gets to 3 and there are no signs of labor, we prepare of a C-section, because if it gets to 1 or lower, you are now chancing the lives of the pups and the bitch, and have less than 12-24 hours to get those pup out.

And I think I have posted it before, but it is never too early to do a C-section (if the breeding dates are correct) but it can become too late.

No, your not crazy. When the temp. drops it is most always pups due within 24 hours and it always works for me.?

Keep a close eye and if u notice her digging, panting real hard and even whinning, get her into the whelp box. She cannot go a week like that, never heard of temp dropping and they go along for a week. She might start to display some other signs.

I have a bitch not due till Sept 27, she has been in early labor for over a week, only licking, swelling of the vulva, pups are dropped into the belly from up under the rib cage. They are in line for sure, she is restless, when she stops eating totally she will go into heavy labor. She is eating some but certainly like normal, she has not room, she is huge with pups. Hanging so low.

I have not taken her temp, I can tell by her signs she is not going to last, I will take it today Monday. Just keep a close eye, if she also quits eating or is slowing down it is not going to be long. It cannot be.!!!

Thanks for the advice...its very helpful! I did notice last night she dropped, I was like...umm, where is the watermelon sides?? LOL, I felt her and yep...she dropped. This morning she has been somewhat distant and I had to almost carry her back inside the house when she went for her morning potty break. When she came in the house she disappeared and I looked all over for her finally finding her in the spare room upstairs. I brought her down to her whelping bed, which is my room and she has been in it ever since. She is digging at the blankets and is trying to sleep alot. No panting yet but I am thinking maybe by tonight it will all hit, hard labor that is. Is there anything else I should be looking for? I check on her about every 30 minutes or so to make sure she is ok.
