Dog not pregnant- Want to foster a Mom
Hi,
Took my shih tzu to vet last nite, they performed a blood test, said it was negative after only about 10 minuted. Did not palpitate her.Her teets are very pronounced and her vulva very swollen. 31 days since mating- (only mated once) she is 3 years old. Are these tests accurate, could she be pregnant? Anyway, I plan to have her spayed as soon as false pregnancy over(vet recommended waiting). Next question, I do not plan to breed her again, however, my daughter is disappointed, someone had suggested being a foster to a pregnant dog.We could help a dog and my daughter could help, ( she wants to be a vet). I really bred Oreo because she has wanted to, not the most responsible thing I know. But now, I feel very prepared , I have spent weeks studying it. Has anyone done this that could give me some insight into it. I called our local HS and left a message. Any input would be great. Thanks, Judy |

These tests are not 100%, have you considered an ultrasound scan

She is about 31 days from mating. I have read they do not pick up the relaxin if it is a small litter , under 3 pups. The vet was so short with me and would not palpitate her even. Does their vulva remain swollen i a false pregnancy. It is really swoolen especially above it and the folds are not even there anymore. so frustrated. She had put her on an antibiotic about 10 days ago when I was in because she had a colorless discharge which I have read is normal with pregnancy. Maybe I need to change vets. I was thinking to treat her as pregnant and wait another week or two , she should start showing by then at 5 weeks right?
Thanks for your help. judy |

A clear or white discharge is normal, yep I would change vets if I were you, can you post pics of her? From what I have heard ******* who are going through a phantom dont have a discharge only pregnant *******, i dont know if this is correct or not, my ******* have never had a phantom.
