Rottweiler Owners... quick question

What's the difference between a Roman Rottweiler and a Standard Rottweiler?

Thanks!

This is what a dog site says:
Quote:
The Roman Rottweiler is generally the same as standard Rottweilers only more mastiff like/flock guardian type in appearance and temperament
Here in Canada we have two classes that are common.

The American which is a taller dog and the German which is shorter and stockier. I assume the Roman is from the Italian breeders picking that trait.

Hmmm. Interesting. Thanks for answering it.
I saw it around somewhere and was wondering what it meant.

This is going on ,on another fourm also.
There is only one breed of Rottweiler.
People call them German, American,Roman , North American King ,because they don't know any better.
You can not tell what country a dog comes from just by looking at it.
They are Rottweilers.

The Roman Rottweiler is supose to be the dog that came with the Romans to Germany.Anyone who knows anything about Rottweilers knows they were not called Rottweilers or looked like Rottweilers until way after the Romans left Germany. So the person selling and breeding these dogs is just selling puppys to idiots who think they are really getting something besides a Rottweiler that is way over the standard

A Rottie is a Rottie, some people will claim there are "German" Rottweielrs and "American" Rottweilers, well unless you imported a Rottie from Germany I wouldn't call it a German Rottie...

As for Roman Rottweilers it's a failed attempt to recreate the traditional Rottweiler, a more athletic, however far larger, more protective Rottie. They are much larger with a more Mastiff look, and white spots are permissable along the chest.

They tried breeding Roman Rotties in th 80s, but by the early 90s hip dysplacia was found in most of the current breeding stock, and they were generally ending up with ugly lanky drooling Rotties instead of the beautiful Mastiff bodied, Rottie colored dogs they were hoping for.

Thanks for the feedback Rotti owners. So I guess the Roman Rottweiler is simply a name some breeder has given to make his Rottweilers seem like a different and new breed...

I prefer the standard Rottis anyway....

I heard the germans have a darker color brown, kind of like a chocolate color, than the regular.

You can not tell where a Rottweiler came from just by looking at it.
I have owned them for years and Judge them and I still don't know what country they come from just by looking at them (except if it has a tail, but alot of breeders here are not docking anymore) Dogs look different because of gentics not origan.
So there are German imports,Duch,Canandian,American,Holland,Yugoslavia n bred dogs but there is no such thing as a German,American,Roman Rottweiler.
