treating Yard for Fleas..

this sunday i plan to treat my whole house for fleas.
i have bought some flea medication for nena, fluffy and bandit (our in/out door cat), I am cleaning intirely the whole house, and have a flea control for the carpet. Now, I want to also treat my yard but I don't know what to use. Have any of you treated your yard for fleas? if so, what did you use? I have about a .5acre yard. TIA

I had to treat my yard recently and I saw you could get flea killing stuff at the feed/pet store. I read in a magazine that if you flood your yard every few days that it would kill the fleas. i tried that and flooded it every 3 days. it worked for me but I don't have a big yard. I hope this helps.

In my area we have trouble with Grubs. I have to treat my yard 2 times yearly. The Grub treatment also eliminates many other pests including fleas. Of course this is a chemical treatment so you have to follow instructions carefully as not to injure any furry friends!

Another thing we do is HOT LIME our entire 5 acreas with a spreader, it kills any eggs, fleas, ticks, knats, etc. We never have a bug, customers that come here ask why we have no bugs, or why our Shepherds ears are so perfect on the tips, etc.

So many questions, we have NO FLIES either as we use Fly Traps Yearly they stay up all winter thaw out and start all over in spring to catch them all. We can have a party cook out with not a bug or fly on our food or the tables without citonella candles we never buy. The trick is hot liming our yard gets flooded many times in Pa from hard down pours I would never trust this to kill fleas, for the larvae sits waiting to hatch and nothing but a chemical kills them from hatching. We have found through asking many farmers, vets, stores what to do to be flea free outdoors as we are indoors. My dogs are on Bug Off so I never see a flea and only saw a tick first time in my life when I had INKO at Emergence Vets, one was flighted in from Florida with one she paid a big buck for a Carien terrier, she was notifying the breeder after she spoke with me.

Use Bug Off Garlic measured in wafers from www.springtimeinc.com/live along with Joint Guard for the larger breeds to promote great joints, ligaments, hips bone and all that good stuff, almost eliminates HD.

It does not kill the eggs, that's why you have to repeat it every few days. My yard is flea free and it cost me nothing.

step by step

ok, this is what i have told all of my clients who are killing the retched fleas!!!

1. Buy frontline PLUS ( it works the best as i can tell ) This kills the fleas, flea larva, eggs and ticks... just a side thing =)

2. Get Ecto kill shampoo from your vet it is a strong shampoo and can be used in conjunction with the frontline. Just make sure that you wait 72 hours before and after applying the frontline before bathing.. frontline is waterprrof only after completeley dry.

3. Get capstar. Also at your vet. It kills adult fleas only for 24 hours, can be used several days in a row. And it can also be used with both the frontline and the Ectokill.

4. Go either to home depo or lowes, and get the stuff that has a nose to it so that you can reach under furtinuter ( thats where they are gonna go)
If you don't want to do that than if you have a yard service, they will sometimes also do the house inside as well as out.

5. As for the yard you can buy things at home depo or lowes that you can sprinkle on the lawn that will kil them, but make sure that it also kills the eggs... you may or may not be able to find that.. If you have a pest control than use them just make sure that you tell them you have fleas.

I hope this helps. But just a word of advice, fleas will be active for 3-4 months after you start to try and kill them, every day you will see new hatchlings, so don't get discuraged, they will eventually die.

Good luck your battle has jusst begun.
